Shipping Containers at Coast Waiting to be Evacuated
Every year containters with waste from the BELARE expedition are brought ot the coast via convoy and are lined up on the edge of the ice shelf as they wait to be evacuated.
It's impressive how neatly they've been lined up in rows on the edge of the ice shelf along hte Princess Ragnhild Coast in East Antarctica. The steel grey sky above creates a vivi contrast with the colourful shipping containers.
The cargo ship is set to arrive around the new year. These containers will be shipped to Cape Town, South Africa where waste will be recycled or disposed of properly. New containers with supplies and equipment will arrive on the cargo ship and be brought back to the Princess Elisabeth in January.
