Progress in Linkebeek: Ventilation and Solar Thermal Systems

The station's ventilation system is currently being integrated at Laborelec, in Linkebeek (Belgium). Other systems' developments include the solar thermal systems and the scientific shelter.

On site and fully integrated inside the station mock-up, the ventilator groups and VAVs (Variable Air Valves) are waiting for the remaining parts to finish the puzzle. The building team has displayed a sort of floor carpet in the roof section of the station, with drawings of the ventilation system's lay-out.

The solar thermal system (STS) has also been assembled by now, but will not be moved inside the station mock-up until later on in the process. Integration of the solar thermal system will completely block access to the lower part of the mock-up so it is important to wait until everything else has been integrated on site before the STS is added.

Last but not least, future scientists, who will be working from and around the station, have gathered in Linkebeek in order to start discussions about the science shelter. This laboratory, which will be partly embedded inside the snow, will measure 1,70 m high and about 2 m wide. It will house future scientific instrumentation used for gravity and GPS measurements, implying the importance for the instruments to be in contact with the ground.
